{"id":413,"date":"2017-03-11T14:53:12","date_gmt":"2017-03-11T14:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jnrfarms.us\/news\/?p=413"},"modified":"2017-03-11T14:53:12","modified_gmt":"2017-03-11T14:53:12","slug":"hard-boiled-bantam-eggs-and-others","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jnrfarms.us\/news\/2017\/03\/hard-boiled-bantam-eggs-and-others\/","title":{"rendered":"Hard Boiled Bantam Eggs and others"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We added Bantam Chickens to our farm this year.\u00a0 They are much easier (lighter) for the kids to work with in Showmanship.\u00a0 Bantams produce small eggs, about half the size of a large egg.\u00a0 They are proving to be a nice supplement to our regular eggs, two bantam eggs equals on regular egg.<\/p>\n<p>With Easter coming we will be using some of the Bantam eggs to decorate.\u00a0 Bantam eggs don&#8217;t take as long to hard boil as regular eggs.\u00a0 We like to bring our water to a rolling boil before gently lower the eggs in with a slotted spoon or shallow ladle.\u00a0 We start the timer as soon as they are all in regardless of whether the water is still boiling.\u00a0 <strong>For large\/extra large eggs, set the timer for 14 minutes.\u00a0 For Bantam eggs set the timer for 11 minutes.\u00a0 For Jumbo eggs set the timer for 16 minutes.<\/strong>\u00a0 Not sure how long Goose eggs will take&#8230;tell you when we know.<\/p>\n<p>When the time is up, I quickly drain the water and run the coldest tap water over them.\u00a0 I continue to cool them by changing the water or adding ice.\u00a0 I found that it doesn&#8217;t matter if you cool them completely, they will peel well this way, anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Hope that helps!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We added Bantam Chickens to our farm this year.\u00a0 They are much easier (lighter) for the kids to work with in Showmanship.\u00a0 Bantams produce small eggs, about half the size of a large egg.\u00a0 They are proving to be a nice supplement to our regular eggs, two bantam eggs equals on regular egg.
