I have read some interesting stories about people surviving and not surviving in the wilderness.\u00a0 One thing they have in common, the people that survived wither got lucky or they were prepared.\u00a0 Those that didn’t survive were never prepared.\u00a0 One story that sticks out is the story of Christopher McCandless<\/a>.\u00a0 He became stranded in the wilderness and even managed to find\/kill meat but with no knowledge of how to preserve the meat, he starved to death.\u00a0 If he had been prepared with the proper knowledge he may have survived.<\/p>\n

In his situation he had the time to preserve the meat for later consumption.\u00a0 If it is in the middle of the Winter you have a ready made freezer provided by Mother-Nature.\u00a0 In his case it was warmer weather, he needed to smoke the meat but didn’t know how.<\/p>\n

Using a Smoking (or dying) process to preserve meat is a crucial survival skill.\u00a0 Using the below diagram, you can preserve meat that will last for up to 4 weeks.\u00a0 The basic rule is one night\/day of heavy smoke will make the meat edible for about a week.\u00a0 Two days\/nights of heavy smoke will make the meat edible for up to 4 weeks!\u00a0 More then enough time to forage\/catch more food or find help.\u00a0 Now you have some basic knowledge on an easy way to preserve the meat you catch.\u00a0 When you need to survive, wasting resources can prove fatal, so smoke it!
